This Monday, the French Justice put an end to the case for the death of Emiliano Sala. The Nantes Commercial Court dismissed Cardiff City's million-dollar lawsuit against Nantes and marked the definitive closure of the judicial dispute that began after the 2019 tragedy
.The Commercial Court of Nantes determined that the French institution was not responsible for the plane crash that occurred on January 21 of that year, when the soccer player was traveling to join the British club. In addition, he ordered Cardiff to pay about 480,000 euros in total: 300,000 for moral damage and 180,000
for judicial costs. The demand for the Welsh team exceeded 120 million euros and was based on economic losses resulting from not being able to count on the player, whose signing had been agreed to be close to 17 million euros. However, the court considered the claim to be “extravagant” and unfounded, in line with previous rulings by FIFA, the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Swiss Justice
.
After hearing the ruling, Cardiff expressed its discomfort in a statement in which it questioned the judicial decision and again pointed out against the role of the middleman: “Today we find with bitterness that the principles of transparency, integrity and security in professional football have not prevailed in this decision, as illustrated by the impunity enjoyed by Willie McKay, a controversial and unlicensed agent, a situation that did not seem to concern Nantes and whose actions contributed to the deaths of two men”
