In the context of the enormous anti-Argentina campaign present on social media and international media following the World Cup final, various CONICET researchers have been exposed after a series of episodes where they are seen promoting the agenda against the country and spreading false news against the government of Javier Milei.
It is publicly known the links between CONICET and foreign funding, particularly British, which helps to understand the reasons behind this large operation against Argentina.
Falsehoods about racism in Argentina
Among the most recent cases is that of researcher Fabio Wasserman, who publicly stated on TN that in Argentina “there is racism,” in an exchange with Adriano Mendes, a former Estudiantes player from Cape Verde.
In response to that statement, Mendes directly contradicted him: “I disagree. We live in Argentina, I am black, should I be upset because they call me black? Argentina is like that. They don’t say it in a bad way. I am proud. We live in a country that calls you fat, skinny, black, colored. We are used to it.”
These statements come in a context where false accusations about racism in Argentina are multiplying, which are part of the global digital offensive that seeks to discredit the country internationally.

The sovereignty of the Falkland Islands
Meanwhile, CONICET researcher Marcos Novaro joined the agenda against the country by openly questioning the historic Argentine claim over the Falkland Islands.
In an article, Novaro categorically stated that “the worst nostalgia is that of having lost what we never had,” in a stance that aligns with the idea of recognizing the right to self-determination of the Falklanders and British sovereignty over the islands.
Furthermore, the researcher claimed that Argentine nationalism fuels an “imaginary persecution” and "conspiracy theories" to justify reactions to external criticism, and denied the existence of an international campaign against the country.
These statements directly contradict the current context, where there is a strong offensive on social media against Argentina through false news.
Novaro was also one of the main proponents of the document “Falklands, an alternative vision,” presented in February 2012 along with other "historians and journalists," where he rejects Argentine sovereignty over the islands.

False news about Milei's reforms
Adding to these controversies is the participation of kirchnerist researcher Matías Oberlin, who in various media interventions criticized, through disinformation, the reforms promoted by the government of Javier Milei.
Regarding the Law of Inviolability of Private Property project, essential for attracting investments, he stated: “This is a law tailored for these large capitals that come to turn us into a colonial enclave,” instilling the idea of a supposed "delivery plan" that threatens national sovereignty.
The country's natural resources
This scenario is compounded by the controversy surrounding the oceanographic expedition “Continental Slope IV,” conducted between July 22 and August 10, 2025, by CONICET.
The campaign, also known as “Underwater Oases,” was driven and funded by British interests, raising questions about CONICET's role in initiatives related to the country's strategic resources.
The real objective of the expedition was to demonize, halt, and attack the offshore oil exploration in the Argentine Sea, especially on the continental slope.
Greenpeace
Through a live broadcast of the campaign, featuring images of marine fauna, the images were attempted to be used as a propaganda tool to generate social rejection of oil activity and the development of the country's strategic resources.
The operation was carried out with a vessel belonging to foreign organizations, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, in a context of dispute over sovereignty in the South Atlantic and the Falkland Islands, and the natural resources of the area.
Simultaneously with that expedition, the international environmental organization Greenpeace launched a campaign to prohibit offshore exploration in Argentina, publicly calling for signatures under the slogan: “Join us and demand urgent actions to protect the planet. SIGN NOW to face the current climate crisis together.”
All these statements and campaigns reveal the existence of a scenario in which CONICET researchers, with foreign funding and the support of international organizations, are driving a massive campaign against Argentina and the government of Javier Milei, using both digital attacks and the dissemination of false news.
