The United States government took a new step in its strategy towards Venezuela with the arrival in Caracas of diplomat John Barrett, who took over as chargé d'affaires at a key moment in the bilateral relationship. Its mission is clear: to advance the implementation of the three-phase plan promoted by the Donald Trump administration.
Barrett arrived in the country to replace Laura Dogu and continue the process started after the reopening of the American embassy, closed for seven years. In his first message, the diplomat assured that he will work to “deliver results for the people of our countries”, highlighting the historic nature of this
new phase.
Washington's plan is structured around three axes: stabilization, economic recovery and political transition, a scheme designed to reorder Venezuela's internal situation after years of institutional crisis
.The arrival of the new envoy takes place in a context of profound changes in the country. In recent months, the United States and Venezuela have made progress in normalizing diplomatic relations, with direct contacts between authorities and the reactivation of cooperation
