President Javier Milei is considering implementing a gesture of strong geopolitical weight: visiting the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, one of the most important symbols of US military power.
The possibility arises within the framework of the joint naval exercises that both nations are carrying out in the Argentine Sea, consolidating a strategic cooperation that the libertarian Government has been promoting since the beginning of its administration.
The USS Nimitz in Argentina and the military exercises
The USS Nimitz, one of the largest warships in the world, arrived in the country after crossing the Strait of Magellan and is already operating off the
Atlantic coast.
The maneuvers are part of the Southern Seas 2026 operation, which includes joint practices between the Argentine and the U.S. Navy
.Among the exercises are:
Air operations with F-18 aircraft
Defense and combat simulations Maritime boarding and control practices Tactical
coordination between fleets
This type of
training, known historically as “Gringo-Gaucho”, aims to raise the operational level of
local forces.Direct invitation and decision under evaluation
The American ambassador Peter Lamelas was the one who formally invited the Argentine president
.From the Casa Rosada they assure that there are “very high chances” that Milei will accept.
The possible window for the visit is between Wednesday and Thursday, depending on the presidential agenda in Buenos Aires.
A political and strategic signal
. If itwere to materialize, the visit would be much more than a protocol
