The Bolivian Police arrested Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset this Tuesday during an operation carried out in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

The arrest occurred in the Las Palmas neighborhood during the early morning, after a police deployment that began around 2:30 in the morning.

Although the Bolivian government has not yet released an official report, police sources confirmed the capture of the drug trafficker.

Marset was considered one of the most wanted criminals in South America.

Operational with specialized forces

The procedure was carried out by agents of the Special Force to Combat Drug Trafficking and by members of the Police Operations Tactical Unit (

UTOP).

During the operation, the police entered a house located in the neighborhood where the suspect was located.

Images released by local media show heavily armed agents guarding several people in detention.

According to reports, four individuals were arrested along with Marset, allegedly members of his security team.

One of the most wanted drug traffickers in the continent

,

Sebastián Marset, is identified by the authorities as the leader of an international organization dedicated to cocaine trafficking and money

laundering.

The criminal network would operate in several countries in the region, including:

  • Bolivia

  • Paraguay

  • Uruguay

  • In addition, the organization had connections to drug trafficking networks in Europe

    .

Investigations argue that Marset coordinated shipments of large shipments of cocaine from South America to the European market.

The escape that made him one of the most wanted fugitives

The drug trafficker had managed to escape a police operation carried out in 2023 in the same city of Santa Cruz de la

    Sierra.

At that time, Marset managed to flee before security forces were able to capture him.

During that period, he lived in Bolivia under a false identity, even maintaining an apparently normal public life.

After his escape, his whereabouts remained unknown for several months, prompting search operations in different countries of the region.

A key catch against regional drug trafficking

The arrest of Marset represents a major blow against drug trafficking networks operating in South America

    .

The authorities are now investigating the links of the criminal organization and the scope of its international operations.

It is expected that in the next few hours the Bolivian government will provide more details about the procedure and the formal charges that the drug trafficker will face.
