In a joint maneuver, the armed forces of the United States carried out an operation against left-wing narco-terrorism in Latin America.

The U.S. military and Ecuadorian forces carried out a joint operation on Friday against a narco-terrorist network in northeastern Ecuador, the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) reported. The action, referred to by Ecuador as Operation “Total Extermination”, was aimed at a camp of the Border Commandos (CDF) group, linked to Colombian FARC dissidents, and was considered a kinetic attack against organizations

designated as terrorists.

General Francis L. Donovan, commander of SOUTHCOM, noted that the operation was carried out “at the command of the Secretary of War” and sought to support Ecuadorian forces in the fight against narco-terrorism, dismantling criminal networks that affect regional security.

“I congratulate our joint forces and the Ecuadorian armed forces for the success of this operation. This collaborative and decisive action is a strategic achievement for all nations committed to defeating narco-terrorism in the hemisphere

,” said Donovan.

The Pentagon, through its spokesman Sean Parnell, indicated that Ecuador requested action to advance the shared objective of dismantling narco-terrorist networks. The operation included helicopters, aircraft, river boats and drones to locate and neutralize the CDF camp, which had a capacity for about 50 people and was located near the Colombian border. So far, it has not been confirmed if there were victims or detainees.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has made the fight against organized crime a priority of his government and recently imposed commercial sanctions on Colombia for not effectively combating drug trafficking.

Noboa traveled to Miami this weekend to participate in the “Shield of the Americas” summit, organized by the Trump administration, which brings together regional leaders for address issues of security and organized crime.

The Pentagon stressed that the operation demonstrates the power of coordinated action and sends a clear message to narco-terrorist networks: they will not find refuge in the Western Hemisphere. “Together we will dismantle trafficking and corruption networks, hold these organizations accountable and restore peace through force,” Parnell

said.

SOUTHCOM noted that the action is part of a sustained effort to take decisive action against designated terrorist organizations, strengthening regional security and supporting allies in the fight against transnational crime. Analysts highlight that the combination of intelligence, technology and international cooperation has allowed the United States and Ecuador to act effectively in precision operations against narco-terrorists, maximizing the impact on criminal structures and minimizing risks

for the civilian population.

With this operation, the U.S. administration reinforces its policy of direct assistance to regional allies and reaffirms its commitment to the stability and security of the hemisphere, demonstrating that drug trafficking networks will have no refuge in America.

Noboa has pointed out that the fight against drug trafficking is an essential pillar for his government.
