Goalkeeper Xeneize was injured a few minutes after the start of the match against Barcelona in Guayaquil and will miss the rest of the year

Despite his resounding 3-0 victory against Barcelona de Guayaquil in La Bombonera, Boca suffered a severe blow for the rest of the year: the injury of Agustín Marchesín. According to the club, the goalkeeper suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will be off the court for six to eight months
.
The injury occurred 8 minutes into the first half, when the goalkeeper went out to cut a shot inside the box and, after rejoining, his right knee clearly gave way when he tried to stop a movement, causing a torsion that set off all the alarms.
Immediately, Marchesín threw himself to the floor and asked for medical assistance. While being treated, he was seen making the warning gesture and, as could be seen, he went so far as to say: “I broke my knee”. Despite trying to continue, he finally had to be replaced by Leandro Brey in tears, in a scene that shocked his teammates and the
audience in La Bombonera.
After the encounter, Captain Leandro Paredes confirmed the initial diagnosis: “He told us that Agustín broke his cruciate ligaments. I send him a hug from everyone and may he have a good and speedy recovery. We'll be waiting for him.”
The goalkeeper had recently overcome a tear in the adductor that had sidelined him from previous games and had returned in record time. The match against Barcelona marked only their second consecutive match after that recovery, in a return that ended in the worst
way. Marchesín had just recovered from a tear With the degree of the injury and the recovery times already confirmed, Boca would have a space available to incorporate a replacement, although with some restrictions.
By regulation, Xeneize can add an emergency goalkeeper, however, with the TMS closed (or in other words, that the international registration period of that federation has ended) and the number of foreigners limit the search to Argentine goalkeepers at the local level. If this scenario occurs, the club must make an order to the AFA to have 10 days of negotiation and, if an agreement is reached, the new player will be able to stop this same semester
.
Beyond this possibility, everything seems to indicate that Brey will be the one to take his place in the starting XI, at least until the mid-year pass market, at which time Boca will have more options, being able to add a goalkeeper from any league and even get rid of a foreigner to free up space and seek options from another nationality.
