Alex Woiski recalled his experience at the Cantilo site: "It was a complicated situation"

The time spent at River is behind Alex Woiski, but not the emotional bond with the club. After going through a difficult phase, terminating his contract, and finding a new opportunity in Venezuela, the forward referred to his experience at Millonario and acknowledged that he still imagines a return in the future.

The Spanish nationalized Argentine arrived in Núñez in mid-2025, coming from Mallorca and with a background in youth categories of the Argentine National Team, and had been secured with a release clause of 100 million euros. The bet was that he could earn a place in the professional squad; however, injuries and lack of continuity ended up affecting his stay. He played only 18 matches in Reserve, in which he scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists, and never officially added minutes with the First Team.

In a conversation with DSports, the attacker explained how he experienced that phase: "When I was training with the First Team, I felt at the level and had hopes of being able to add minutes. Due to a matter of luck, it didn't happen for me and I went down to reserve, where perhaps I didn't have the coach's confidence and that made everything difficult".

On top of the sporting difficulties, there was an institutional situation that marked the end of his cycle. Along with other players, he was sidelined and sent to train separately in Cantilo while waiting to resolve his future. According to Woiski, the news surprised the players. "We found out through that letter that we had to go to Cantilo, and it was a strange experience. A club like River, for me the biggest in America, made a striking and incorrect decision. In the end, the club realized and helped to finalize the departures of the players, and I am grateful to the club for that", he recalled.

The forward also described the impact of that period and highlighted the support he found alongside his teammates. "It was a complicated situation in Cantilo, at first the club didn't help much in resolving the situation. It was complicated to be locked in a 4x4 but we trained to the maximum and supported each other mentally. In some training sessions we felt that helplessness of wanting things to be different, but it's something that has already passed", he recounted.

Woiski also explained that his intention from the beginning had been to have an opportunity in the First Team, something he ultimately could not achieve for various reasons. "The intention was always to add minutes in the First Division, I came from two or three months without playing in Mallorca due to a contractual issue, but it couldn't happen. I had injuries in my ankle and hamstring, and that made everything difficult for me", he pointed out.

Despite that outcome, he took positive memories from his time in Núñez and emphasized the learning alongside experienced players. "Being at River was a great experience, I learned a lot from very experienced and high-caliber players. I take all the teachings from Muñeco (Gallardo) and (Matías) Biscay", he stated. Additionally, he particularly remembered two team leaders: "When I arrived, Nacho Fernández and Pity Martínez surprised me. They are two players with impressive technique".

His present in Venezuelan football and his desire for revenge at River

After his departure, Deportivo Táchira emerged as a new opportunity to relaunch his career. The attacker signed for 18 months with the Venezuelan team, with an option to extend the contract, and has already started to accumulate minutes in the First Division.

His present in Venezuela, according to his own words, has allowed him to recover something he sought since his arrival at River: continuity. "Now I feel very comfortable in Venezuela, I think that we made a good decision thinking about having minutes. We were able to leave River well, we were interested in this proposal and we are super happy with this present", he expressed.

However, the affection for the club in Núñez remains intact. Woiski acknowledged: "I felt and still feel like a River fan despite all the circumstancess". And he made it clear that he still considers a possible return: "Not being able to show myself to the River fans is something sad, but it's a door that has closed today and that can open in the future".

The player even went further and admitted his desire to return to Argentina to experience local football again. "I love how football is lived in Argentina and I would like to experience it again in the future, if it's at River, even better. The door is open because it's a market that interests me", he stated.
