All cars that no longer pay license fees: the list effective from May 2025
Model year 2000 cars and other special cases no longer pay the license fee since May; see if your vehicle is included
This year, thousands of vehicles in Argentina may stop paying the license plate fee thanks to their age or by meeting special conditions.
The exemption varies by jurisdiction and can be applied automatically or through a procedure. Find out which models are covered and how to access the benefit.

Why do some cars stop paying the license plate fee?
In most Argentine provinces, vehicles stop paying the automotive license plate fee after 25 years from their registration.
In 2025, this includes cars from model year 2000. Although the tax is already low due to its fiscal value, many owners celebrate this economic relief.
Is it automatic or do you have to do a procedure?
It depends on the province. In some districts, the exemption is applied automatically. In others, it must be managed through a specific form.

An example is Neuquén, where a Certificate of Exemption can be requested if the car is more than 20 years old. The procedure is done in person or by email.
Can you stop paying before 25 years?
Some provinces offer a kind of early retirement of the license plate fee. That is, they allow you to stop paying from 20 years with a prior request.

This benefit is not automatic and depends on the fiscal policy of each jurisdiction. You must check on the website or the local tax office.
Special exemptions beyond age
Besides the passage of time, there are other reasons why a vehicle may be exempt from paying the license plate fee.
Electric cars
Many provinces promote electromobility with tax incentives. One of the most common is the total or partial exemption from the license plate fee.

Vehicles adapted for people with disabilities
This group has specific benefits. The exemption can be requested by presenting supporting documentation.
Historic cars
Vehicles preserved for cultural or recreational purposes can also be exempt under special regimes.

What happens in CABA with the license plate fee exemption?
In the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, cars over 25 years old stop paying the license plate fee.
It also applies to cars adapted for people with disabilities, although in this case, the procedure is mandatory.
Documentation to request the exemption in CABA
- Vehicle title.
- Valid disability certificate.
- Original and photocopy of the owner's ID.
- Form "Exemption Request for People with Disabilities – License Plates".
- Signed note requesting the exemption.
The submission can be made in person or by postal mail. Once received, the City Government evaluates the request and notifies the decision.

Where to check if your car is covered?
The best option is to visit the Revenue website of your province or check at the tax offices. There you can verify if your vehicle meets the requirements.
You can also contact the corresponding administration by phone or email to expedite the process.
