The 2025 Chinese Grand Prix was another nightmare for Alpine, which seems to have not yet started the season. In the Shanghai race, Gasly finished 11th, but was later disqualified due to regulatory issues, and Jack Doohan finished 16th with a penalty for a bad maneuver.
During the post-race technical checks, the French driver was disqualified after his car registered a weight of 799 kg (1761 pounds) after the fuel was removed, 1 kg less than the minimum regulatory weight of 800 kg (1763 pounds). Beyond the penalty, Gasly was going to finish 11th, once again scoring 0 points, although with hope of scoring some points due to others being penalized post-GP.

The Alpine driver was not the only one affected; the two Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, were also disqualified for regulatory non-compliance. Leclerc, who had finished 5th, faced the same issue as Gasly with the car's weight, while Hamilton, who had finished 6th, was penalized for the thickness of the underbody skid, which measured between 8.5 and 8.6 mm when the minimum limit is 9 mm. Had he complied with all regulations, Gasly could have moved up to ninth position, scoring at least 2 points.

Meanwhile, the other driver of the French team, Jack Doohan, finished 16th, scoring no points for the second consecutive race. Additionally, he received a 10-second penalty along with the loss of two points on his super license for a dangerous maneuver against Isack Hadjar. It should be noted that the Australian driver had also been penalized in the Sprint race with another two points for a collision with Bortoleto, leaving him with 8 points available to avoid missing a race.
