In a historic turn for sovereignty and national defense, Argentina and the United States sealed a new level of military cooperation through the combined exercise “Atlantic Dagger”, the first of significant magnitude between both nations under the current administration.

This display of strength and coordination, carried out at the IV Airborne Brigade in Córdoba, represents the government's firm commitment to professional excellence and the integration of our Armed Forces into the most demanding international standards.

The event was attended by the top officials of the government, led by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Presti, and the U.S. ambassador, Peter Lamelas. This milestone was accompanied by ministers Federico Sturzenegger (Deregulation and State Transformation), Pablo Quirno (Foreign Relations), and Mario Lugones (Health), along with legislators such as the libertarian Carlos Zapata, demonstrating the unanimous support of Javier Milei's administration for the reconstruction of the defense apparatus.

The operation successfully simulated the recovery of the Panama Canal and hostage rescue. In a demonstration of lethal efficiency, a team of over 50 Argentine uniformed personnel —under the supervision of the U.S. Southern Command Special Operations Command (Socsouth) and the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU)— executed the mission with “millimeter precision” in less than 5 minutes.

During the maneuver, approximately 25,000 shots were fired from rifles and combat vehicles, consolidating a level of training that Minister Presti described as “a leap in quality”.

An unprecedented event in Argentine military history was the international recognition obtained: the participating uniformed personnel received a diploma with international certification from NATO and the UN. Additionally, in a gesture of supreme trust from Washington, local military had total control of the situation, something unusual in regional operations.

In this regard, Minister Carlos Presti emphasized: “this was the first time that Argentine elements took command of that organization”. The minister proudly added that the Americans “greatly value the intellectual and planning capacity of our officers and non-commissioned officers, perhaps above the rest of South America”.

This exercise is the prelude to an ambitious re-equipping and modernization plan that will leave behind equipment from 35 years ago. By 2028, a massive deployment is projected to include:

The full operational capability of the recently acquired F-16 aircraft and Stryker vehicles.

The incorporation of Black Hawk helicopters version Lima, with the first 2 units (out of a total of 4) expected to arrive before the end of the year.

The use of aircraft such as the C-130 Hercules, the Embraer ERJ, the P-3 Orion aircraft, and the Ocean Patrol ARA “Contraalmirante Cordero”.

Finally, Minister Presti highlighted the value of the human capital recovered by this administration: “the most valuable thing is to show that the Armed Forces of Argentina have a very large human capital... being able to access those experiences of real wars is very important”, referring to the training received by American war veterans during the day. With an eye on the PANAMAX 2026 exercise, Argentina under Milei is firmly moving towards the forefront of hemispheric security.
