The Government consolidates the modernization of the Argentine Armed Forces with the arrival in the country of the first eight Mercedes-Benz Unimog U4000 tactical trucks, vehicles that will be part of the process of renewing the fleet of the Argentine Army. The units arrived at the port of Zárate and will be officially presented in the coming days during the activities for the 216th anniversary of the creation of the Army.

The incorporation of these vehicles marks the beginning of a re-equipment program that includes the acquisition of up to 1,000 4x4 tactical trucks to progressively replace the historic Unimog U416, many of which have decades of service in various military units across the country.

The selection of the U4000 was the result of a technical and operational evaluation process carried out between 2024 and 2025, in which various international manufacturers participated. During the tests conducted in high-demand scenarios, including mountainous terrain, mud, and various load configurations, the Mercedes-Benz model was deemed the most suitable to meet the operational needs of the Army.

The technological leap compared to the vehicles currently in service is significant. The Unimog U4000 features a 222-horsepower engine, tripling the power available compared to the models it aims to replace and quadrupling the torque. Additionally, it increases the load capacity from 2.5 to 4 tons and can operate in some of the most complex geographical environments in Argentine territory.

Among its main features, permanent 4x4 all-wheel drive, a fording capability of up to 1.20 meters, a gross vehicle weight of 9.5 tons, and the ability to be transported by C-130 Hercules aircraft stand out, a capability that significantly expands the options for rapid deployment in emergency situations or special missions.

The modular design of the vehicle allows it to be adapted for multiple functions, from troop and equipment transport to logistical tasks, supply in hard-to-reach areas, or configuration as a field ambulance. The purchase also includes spare parts, specialized tools, and training programs for military mechanics and drivers, with the aim of ensuring the long-term operability of the fleet.

After completing the reception and technical preparation processes, the units will be distributed among various Army dependencies. Before that, they will be on public display during the commemorative activities for the anniversary of the force, where they will be one of the main attractions of the military exhibition.

The arrival of the first Unimog U4000 adds to other initiatives aimed at recovering strategic capabilities and advancing the modernization of Argentine military equipment, an area that has suffered from a lack of investment and technological renewal for years.
