Barbie Vélez revealed the condition she suffers from after using expired products

Nazarena Vélez's daughter suffered an allergic reaction from using expired makeup and had to begin treatment

Barbie Vélez used her social media to share a recent health episode she experienced after applying expired makeup to her face. According to the actress, using the cosmetic caused an allergic reaction in her eyes that forced her to seek medical advice and begin treatment.

Everything began when, while going through her belongings, she found a makeup product she had purchased the previous year. Although she noticed that the product might not be in good condition, she decided to try it anyway.

"I used it anyway because I thought it looked good on me, it seems that now I'm paler. I put it on my eyelids as if it were a primer and it caused an allergic reaction," she explained.

The next morning, she woke up with swollen eyes and thought it was a consequence of having slept more than usual. However, as the hours passed, the symptoms intensified.  "My eyes were itchy, and when I closed them, I felt as if I had sand or dust. It bothered me a lot," she detailed.

Barbie confessed that she suspected the makeup could cause her an adverse reaction, but she still tried to "get the most out of it".  "It was a bad idea, I had a terrible allergic reaction," she stated. Thanks to the quick medical intervention and the prescribed medication, she was able to control the symptoms.

Finally, she shared a warning message with her followers:  "Get rid of expired makeup and make sure they're products approved by ANMAT." With that reflection, she drew attention to the importance of checking expiration dates and the quality of cosmetics before using them.

What are the most common problems that can result from using expired products on the skin?

Using expired cosmetics can cause anything from mild irritations to severe allergic reactions. Dermatitis, eye burning, redness, burns, itching, and skin infections are some of the most frequent consequences. Specialists recommend discarding products in poor condition and using only those approved by ANMAT.

As a guideline, it is advised not to share makeup, to avoid storing products in humid environments, and to pay attention to changes in texture, color, or scent.
