The election campaign at Barcelona remains red hot, once again with Lionel Messi's name at the center of the scene. Weeks before the March 15 elections, businessman Víctor Font, a leading opposition figure, presented an ambitious project to make the Argentine captain's return a reality and turn him into a key piece of the club's institutional future.
Font, leader of the party "Sí al Futur" and main competitor of current president Joan Laporta, stated that the initiative was already presented to the player's entourage at the end of 2023. The plan is based on three pillars: sporting, institutional, and commercial.

On the football side, the executive raised the possibility that Messi could wear the blaugrana jersey again if he wishes to do so and could say farewell at Camp Nou "as he deserves". "Messi has to retire and he has to say goodbye to all the culés on the field. How that happens depends exclusively on his will and on his situation at the end of this year, when the World Cup has passed and the season in MLS has ended, at the end of 2026", he explained.
The second proposal aims to name him honorary president of the club, a role that would require amending the bylaws and obtaining approval from the members' assembly. According to Font, the Rosario-born star represents "the values and the way of doing things" of Barcelona's identity and could become its "best ambassador worldwide".
