An individual approached at close range and shot him, hitting him in the shoulder.

The incident occurred while Uribe was delivering a speech to party members and supporters. The striker, who has not yet been identified, reportedly fled the scene after the shooting.

Bogotá Police are working on gathering evidence, including security camera footage and witness testimonies. Meanwhile, the senator continues to receive medical attention and his condition has been reported as stable.

The attack came after the complaint against the new Petrista minister

Presidential pre-candidate Miguel Uribe had announced that he was going to file a lawsuit against the appointment of Luis Eduardo Montealegre as the new Minister of Justice in President Gustavo Petro's government.

According to Uribe, this appointment represents a "constitutional breach" and will be challenged in judicial and political arenas.

Political context and possible motivations

This attack takes place in an already tense electoral climate, with several reports of political violence and threats against candidates. Uribe is positioned as one of Centro Democrático's strongest candidates for the 2026 presidential elections, so the episode could be related to his campaign. So far, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack, although the Prosecutor's Office has already opened a criminal investigation for aggravated assault and attempted homicide.

The incident has caused alarm both nationally and internationally. Human rights organizations and political sectors describe the act as an attempt at intimidation and call for strengthening guarantees for democratic participation in Colombia.

Implications for the campaign

This episode puts the Colombian presidential campaign on edge. Authorities warn that the attack may accelerate the reinforcement of security measures for pre-candidates and raise tension in the electoral calendar. Analysts agree that the attack could generate a "boomerang effect" against Centro Democrático, while also pressuring the Government to guarantee conditions of freedom and political security in the country.
