C5N has once again found itself at the center of controversy over the way it presented a publication originating from the Falkland Islands. The outlet shared on its social media an article from Penguin News, a publication edited in the archipelago under British administration, which accuses President Javier Milei of using the Falklands issue as a supposed distraction tool.
The C5N publication was titled: “A kelper newspaper claimed that Javier Milei uses the Falklands issue to ‘distract people from his failures’”. The central problem is that the original content is not an investigation or journalistic information presented as fact: Penguin News expressly published it within the “Opinion Piece” category.
The text was written by Lisa Watson, director of Penguin News, and contains a political interpretation of Milei, his management, and Argentina's position regarding the Falkland Islands.
A kelper editorial presented as information
In her article, Watson argues that the President would have resorted to the claim for the Falklands due to a supposed drop in his approval ratings. The author suggests that the leader seeks to generate outrage around the sovereign issue to divert attention from other internal matters.
