After more than two years on the run, Gustavo Sergio Tripolone, one of the most dangerous criminals in Tucumán, was arrested in Córdoba. The arrest took place in a gated community in the northern area, following a coordinated operation between the Federal Police and local forces. The procedure was ordered by Sentencing Judge Gonzalo Ortega and allowed authorities to close a lengthy investigation.
Inside the residence where he was hiding, officers found 100,000 dollars in cash and fraudulent documentation. They also seized a cell phone, which will be examined by the judiciary to determine whether there were contacts with criminal networks in both provinces. Investigators suspect that Tripolone maintained active ties with an organization dedicated to vehicle theft and resale.
La detención en Córdoba cerró un largo historial de evasiones y engaños judiciales
Conviction for attempted homicide and escape with ankle monitor
Tripolone had been sentenced to eight years in prison for attempted homicide. The victim was an employee of Vialidad de Tucumán who was attacked in 2007, a case that shocked the province. However, the accused remained a fugitive for years, which delayed the execution of the sentence.
In 2023, while he was benefiting from temporary release with an electronic ankle monitor, he managed to escape again. The Tucumán Public Prosecutor's Office had issued a national arrest warrant, but several operations in both provinces failed. The arrest in Córdoba closed a long history of evasions and judicial deception.

Investigation into vehicle theft ring
According to the newspaper La Gaceta, the detainee was also identified as the leader of a gang dedicated to car theft. The vehicles were stolen in Córdoba and then transported to Tucumán, where they were resold using forged documentation. The judiciary is investigating whether the criminal structure continues to operate under other names.
Prosecutors are working on the data obtained from the seized phone to identify accomplices. According to judicial sources, new arrests are expected in the coming days. The case could reveal links between local organizations and interprovincial criminal networks.

Extradition to Tucumán and closure of a chapter
After his arrest, Tripolone was transferred to a police facility in Córdoba's capital. From there, his extradition to Tucumán is being processed, where he will serve the remainder of his sentence in Benjamín Paz prison. Judicial authorities highlighted the collaboration between both provinces to achieve the arrest.
The case exposes, once again, the deficiencies of the Argentine penitentiary system, which allowed the escape of a dangerous criminal. It also underscores the importance of institutional cooperation to ensure the effective enforcement of sentences.
