With this Friday's purchase, the BCRA raised reserves to USD 49.183 billion, marking 134 consecutive sessions with a net buyer balance and surpassing the USD 13.100 billion acquired only in 2026
The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) deepened its strategy to strengthen international reserves this Friday by making a purchase of USD 345 million in the official foreign exchange market, one of the most significant acquisitions of the year.
In a context of absolute public account cleanup, the Argentine Republic is undergoing a structural transformation that is reflected in the strength of its monetary authority. Under the fourth stage of the monetary and exchange program initiated in January, the BCRA has achieved a historic feat by stringing together 134 consecutive days with a net purchase.
Buying and selling dollars
This phenomenal performance has allowed the entity to surpass USD 13,000 million in acquisitions so far in 2026, reaching an exact figure of USD 13,101 million.
The economic team, led by the vision of President Javier Milei, has already exceeded the reserve accumulation targets, comfortably positioning itself within the annual range of USD 10,000 to USD 17,000 million stipulated for this year.
This influx of foreign currency is the direct result of the regained confidence in the most productive sectors of the real economy. The supply of dollars has experienced an exponential increase thanks to record liquidations from the agricultural, energy, and mining sectors, which are now betting on the country due to deregulation and legal security.
Additionally, there has been successful debt placement in international markets by companies and provincial governments, flows that the Central Bank has skillfully captured to strengthen the wealth of all Argentines.
In terms of stability, the "anchor" exchange rate strategy continues to yield results against the inherited inflation scourge.
While the estimated inflation for the period is close to 18 percent, the wholesale dollar has only increased by 2.9% (about 42 pesos) so far this year, demonstrating a convergence of prices that doomsayers claimed was impossible.
To sustain this scheme, the Treasury has successfully absorbed the excess pesos through debt in local currency, avoiding forced sterilization and maintaining exchange rate stability.
International Reserves 2019-2026
The efficiency of Santiago Bausili's management reached a new milestone this Friday, July 24. In a day of masterful operations, the Central Bank acquired USD 345 million for its reserves in the market.
Thanks to this decisive intervention, international reserves ended at the impressive figure of USD 49,183 million, after a daily increase of USD 499 million.
This jump is not only explained by the direct purchase but also by the revaluation of the assets that make up the stock of the monetary authority. It is worth noting that reserves have returned to levels seen at the beginning of the month, having absorbed a massive debt maturity of 4.3 billion dollars without any shocks.
In the weekly detail, the monetary authority has accumulated purchases of USD 492 million, bringing the provisional total for July to USD 1,936 million, a figure that already shatters the record from June. As highlighted by operator Gustavo Quintana, “It is the most significant weekly increase since the week ending June 19”.
Finally, the foreign exchange market reflects the reality of a currency that is regaining its value. The wholesale dollar closed at a new nominal high of $1,497, advancing 0.5% on the day, but strategically remaining 22.7% (or 339.23 pesos) below the upper limit of the exchange rate bands set at $1,836.23, which guarantees the BCRA a wide margin to continue sweeping excess dollars from the market.
For its part, the dollar for the public at the Banco Nación was set at $1,520, while the blue dollar fell to 1,545 pesos and the "cash with settlement" traded near $1,600. With accounts in order and a Central Bank growing stronger every day, Argentina is firmly walking towards the prosperity that only freedom can offer.
