Cerúndolo surprised and eliminated Zverev in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Madrid.

The Argentine tennis player won decisively against the world number 2 with a 7-5, 6-3, and advanced to the ATP quarterfinals

Francisco Cerúndolo once again demonstrated his dominance against Alexander Zverev, eliminating him from the Madrid Masters 1000 in two sets. With a 7-5 and 6-3, the Argentine defeated the German once more, the top favorite to win the Spanish tournament, thus advancing to the quarterfinals and extending his positive record against the number 2 in the ATP ranking.

After overcoming Francisco Comesaña in a compatriot clash, the world number 21 faced the challenge of playing "Sascha" again. The second-best tennis player of the moment reached this stage after convincingly defeating clay court specialists like Roberto Bautista Agut (6-2, 6-2) and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (2-6, 7-6[3]and 7-6[0]).

Without being intimidated by the tournament's top seed, Cerúndolo achieved a resounding victory against a rival with whom he now holds a perfect record of three wins and no losses. Additionally, he defeated him again in the same round and in the same tournament as last year.

Thanks to this new achievement on Spanish soil, Cerúndolo reaches the quarterfinals of the tournament for the second consecutive year, allowing him to retain the points he was defending, and for the third time this season reaches this stage in a tournament of this category. He also secured his fifteenth victory against a player ranked in the Top 10.

In the next match, the best Argentine racket at the moment will face Jakub Menšík (No. 24) this Thursday, at a time yet to be confirmed. The Czech recently defeated Kazakh Aleksandr Bublik with a score of 6-3 and 6-2.

In that same part of the draw, a hypothetical semifinal could pair him with Taylor Fritz (No. 4), Casper Ruud (No. 15), Daniil Medvedev (No. 10), or Brandon Nakashima (No. 32), who still have to play their round of 16 matches.
