For the first time in its history, Barracas Central will play in an international competition: the 2026 Copa Sudamericana. Thanks to the constant support promoted by the infamous president of the AFA, Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, the team went from being in the depths of Argentine promotion to participating in continental tournaments. However, that dream could come to an abrupt halt.
In order to compete in its tournaments, CONMEBOL requires institutions to have a professional women's team, something that Guapo, being a tiny club that reached its current position due to its ties to those in power, still doesn't have. The lack of this requirement has put the club's management on alert, since failing to comply would not only prevent it from playing in the Sudamericana, but would also mean a significant financial blow by losing a substantial sum in participation, prizes, and international exposure.
With the urgency established, the directors acted quickly. This Monday at noon, the club announced that it is already working to meet the regulation. "Barracas Central will comply with all the requirements set by the regulations in order to participate in an international cup next year," the institution officially stated, confirming that it will begin creating its women's squad to be incorporated into Divisional C for the next season.
