According to estimates, in September 2025, some service stations in the city are selling it at 499 pesos, which is 26% less than in September 2024.
This sharp decrease, which was noticed this Monday with a surprise offer in the Bajo Palermo neighborhood, represents a reduction of 130 pesos in less than 14 days.
Historically, Córdoba is experiencing the third event of this kind, with precedents between 2009 and 2011, and then in 2020.
Why CNG prices dropped in Córdoba
This new dispute is taking place in a context of a shrinking local vehicle fleet.
El precio del GNC en Córdoba sigue bajo.
This price drop is due to two essential factors.
On one hand, seasonality reduces residential gas demand at the end of winter.
This allows owners to acquire the resource under better conditions and pass the advantage on to the public.
This context is deepened by strong internal competition among sales points, which are seeking to attract customers and add users.
The CNG Chamber described a "very strong rivalry" between conservative sellers (who want high profits) and competitive ones (who seek volume through low prices).
Factors that make up the price of CNG
The cost of vehicular gas has always been a private agreement between the station owner and the producer. In addition, the increase in production in Vaca Muerta, with "frozen" wellhead prices, lowers costs.
The retail sector is on alert due to this sharp drop in rates. Current profitability is practically zero.
With a cost of 565 pesos, the profit per cubic meter for the station is just 90 pesos.
This margin is insufficient to cover infrastructure and other operating expenses of a sales outlet.
While competition in the Capital is aggressive, establishments in the interior of Córdoba maintain higher rates, close to 700 or 750 pesos, resulting in a more sustainable operating scheme.
