The communist Mamdani called for banning all weapons in the United States.

The Democratic candidate for mayor of New York caused significant criticism after declaring that firearms should be banned throughout the country

Zohran Mamdani, the current Democratic candidate for New York City mayor who identifies with communist ideas, has caused major controversy after calling for a national gun ban, even after the shooting that took place this week in a Manhattan skyscraper that left 4 dead, including a police officer.

During his press appearance, the candidate tried to distance himself from his past statements in which he called for defunding the police and accused his political opponents of using the shooting for electoral purposes.

Mamdani's hypocrisy.

Mamdani's call for greater gun control has been harshly criticized for the clear hypocrisy in his recent conduct, especially regarding the security at his lavish wedding that took place last week.

Despite his anti-gun rhetoric in the United States, the communist politician held his wedding in his home country, Uganda, a place with much stricter gun laws, clearly surrounded by armed guards.

This contradiction has been pointed out as an example of the double standard often adopted by political figures who promote gun restrictions for the public, while protecting themselves with armed personnel.

Uganda strictly regulates gun ownership.

Uganda, where his wedding was held, requires special permits, a minimum age, and "reasonable cause" to legally carry firearms.

Nevertheless, despite these laws, the African country keeps one of the highest rates of gun violence and illegal arms trafficking in the region, which shows that simply banning or restricting legal access to firearms doesn't solve the problem.

The criticism points out that, as in many other cases, criminals continue to acquire firearms, while ordinary citizens lose the ability to defend themselves.

This argument is reinforced by recent and past examples: the stabbing of 11 people in a Walmart in Michigan, stopped only by an armed civilian; or the attack in Nice (France) in 2016, where a man killed 86 people using a truck, despite France's strict gun control laws.
