Every World Cup has its rituals. The superstitions, promises, holy cards, and requests are part of the Argentine football tradition long before the first match. With this premise, the province of Córdoba launched a proposal that combines faith, identity, and tourism: asking Cura Brochero for the Argentine National Team.
The initiative, called "Brochero, official saint of the Argentine National Team", invites Argentines to download a digital holy card of the Cordoban saint, share it as a World Cup superstition, and support the National Team in its quest for a new championship.
In addition to joining the football atmosphere generated by each World Cup, the campaign aims to bring visitors closer to the Camino de Brochero, one of the most emblematic tourist, historical, and religious routes in Córdoba.
A proposal that unites football, faith, and tourism
The campaign can be found on the official website of the province, where users have the opportunity to download the digital holy card and learn in depth about the history of José Gabriel del Rosario Brochero.
The priest was canonized by Pope Francis in 2016 and became the first saint born, lived, and died in Argentina, a recognition that solidified his figure as one of the great spiritual references of the country.
His legacy remains especially alive in Córdoba, where he carried out an intense pastoral and social work, promoting the construction of roads, schools, and projects that transformed the lives of thousands of inhabitants in the provincial interior.
