Steer and calf prices dropped at the latest auction at the Sociedad Rural de Jesús María, Córdoba, held on Monday, and this development could influence the price of beef.
This is because the steer price, specifically, serves as a reference value for what later happens on store shelves.
The consumption category (young steers), from 300 to 350 kilograms (661 to 772 pounds), reached a maximum price of $3,340, a value that is 0.6% lower than last week, when $3,360 per kilogram was paid.

Calf prices dropped by more than 16%
Meanwhile, calves weighing 100 to 150 kilograms (220 to 331 pounds) were paid at $4,000 per kilogram, representing a 16.6% decrease compared to the $4,800 per kilogram paid at the previous auction.
The number of animals auctioned was 1,314, which was 3.5% lower than the 1,366 animals offered the previous week.
According to data from Consignaciones Córdoba, maximum prices for both young steers and calves declined compared to the previous week.
