The governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo, expressed strong support for the labor reform promoted by President Javier Milei and stated that the initiative "has a high probability of being approved" due to the consensus that exists regarding the need to modernize a system that, according to him, has become obsolete and limits the creation of formal employment in Argentina.
Cornejo argued that the current regulatory framework "is deeply anti-worker", since its lack of updates prevents companies from creating new jobs. In this regard, he maintained that the reform proposed by the Executive Branch is aligned with the modern standards applied by countries with higher employment and development rates.
The role of the May Council and support for the reform agenda
The provincial leader highlighted the work of the May Council, convened by the national government to discuss structural changes in key areas, including labor legislation. According to him, the process allowed for the drafting of solid bills and the identification of consensus among the majority of participating provinces.

Cornejo especially emphasized President Milei's political leadership, to whom he attributed the ability to promote deep and necessary discussions that other governments avoided for years. For the governor, labor reform is an essential step within the transformation program that seeks to lift the country out of stagnation.
The position of the unions and the internal debate
Regarding the CGT's position, Cornejo pointed out that there is a difference between public statements and private conversations. He stated that many union leaders understand the need to update the regulations, even if they publicly maintain a more rigid stance to avoid being linked to interests contrary to their represented base.
The governor explained that both the CGT, with contributions from Gerardo Martínez, and the UIA, with interventions from Martín Rapallini, participated with proposals that enrich the project. However, he emphasized that the Executive Branch's initiative is the one that best summarizes the vision for the future that the country needs.

Formal employment and growth: why the reform is indispensable
Cornejo reiterated that Argentina has had virtually stagnant formal employment levels for more than a decade, an indicator that demonstrates the rigidities and obstacles of the current system. He maintained that modernizing legislation, streamlining hiring, and reducing unnecessary litigation are key to attracting investment, fostering competition, and generating new job opportunities.
The governor concluded by highlighting that the reforms promoted by President Milei are aimed at rebuilding a more flexible, competitive labor market that is favorable for long-term economic growth.
