Willington, idol of Talleres and Vélez Sársfield
As an immortal figure for the Pueblo Matador, Willington will forever remain in the memory of the Albiazul fans. His name, his talent, and his love for the jersey transcend generations.
Willington, ídolo total de Talleres.
Born in Santa Fe, Daniel arrived in Córdoba at the age of seven when Talleres signed his father, Atilio "el Toro" Willington. He spent his childhood in Villa Revol, just meters from La Boutique, where he began to forge his eternal bond with the Club.
He made his official debut wearing the Albiazul jersey on June 7, 1959, at just 16 years old, in the 5-2 victory over Huracán de La France.
Willington, pure talent at Talleres
From that very first day, his talent amazed both locals and outsiders. In total, he played 168 matches, scored 66 goals, and won 17 titles with Talleres.
After a brilliant spell at Vélez, he returned to Córdoba in 1973 to play a leading role in a glorious era for the Club under the presidency of Amadeo Nuccetelli.
His exquisite technique, his intelligence on the field, and his personality made him an icon of national football. He was drafted to the national team dozens of times.
That stunning Willington goal against Belgrano
Among the unforgettable memories, his free-kick goal in the final on August 21, 1974, against Belgrano, in Alberdi, is part of the great history of Córdoba football.
That perfect shot, from 30 meters (98 feet), found the top corner and unleashed the madness of the Pueblo Matador.
His skill was such that even Pelé himself once described him as "the best player in the world."
