The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated on Monday that he had an "excellent" phone conversation with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping, emphasizing that the relationship between both powers is experiencing one of its "strongest" moments since the beginning of his administration.
The call, confirmed by the White House, focused on trade, international security, and the geopolitical situation in Asia, according to what Trump indicated in a post on Truth Social.
The American leader reported that he discussed with Xi topics such as the war between Russia and Ukraine, the fentanyl crisis, and agricultural trade. Trump celebrated the progress made for the benefit of American farmers, assuring that the agreement recently reached with China "will only improve" and represents a key boost for the rural sector.

Trump also announced that both leaders agreed to maintain constant communication and hold in-person meetings in the coming months. The first will be a visit by Trump to Beijing in April, followed by a state visit by Xi to the United States later in the year. "We both believe it's important to speak frequently, and that's what we'll do," wrote the president.
The call took place weeks after the meeting between both leaders in Busan, South Korea, where they managed to ease tensions after months of friction over American tariff policy. Since that meeting, Washington reduced its tariffs on Chinese products by 10%, while Beijing resumed the purchase of American soybeans and froze new restrictions on the export of rare minerals.
Although the White House did not offer additional details, the official Chinese readout did mention several key points of the conversation.
