The President of the United States, Donald Trump, held an extensive phone conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and later spoke with the leaders of NATO, after concluding his meeting with Russian President Alaska Vladimir Putin, the White House reported.

The calls were made during his return flight to Washington, where he landed in the early hours of Saturday. According to the spokesperson for Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission participated in the communication, in which Trump offered a summary to the European leaders about the meeting with Putin.

From NATO, an official confirmed that Secretary General Mark Rutte also joined, while it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron was also present. According to the European Commission, the leaders of Germany, Finland, Poland, Italy, and United Kingdom also took part in the conference.

Axios journalist Barak Ravid, citing a source who participated in the conversations, indicated that President Trump spoke for more than 90 minutes with Zelensky and the European leaders. Subsequently, Zelensky announced that on Monday he will travel to Washington.

After the phone call with the European leaders, they stated in a communiqué that they were informed about the meeting with Vladimir Putin and highlighted that Donald Trump expressed his support for providing security guarantees to Ukraine.

“We are clear that Ukraine needs strong security guarantees to effectively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We welcome President Trump's statement that the United States is willing to offer security guarantees”, they stated in a communiqué.

The European bloc also recognized Trump's efforts to try to stop the war on Ukrainian territory and expressed its willingness to work together with him and President Volodymyr Zelensky in organizing a trilateral summit backed by Europe.

“If everything goes well, we will schedule a meeting with President Putin”, Trump declared on his social media, adding: “Potentially, millions of lives will be saved”.

The much-anticipated summit in Alaska did not manage to establish a final agreement to end or halt the war in Ukraine, although both Trump and Putin described the dialogue as very productive before returning to their respective countries. In a brief joint statement after nearly three hours of meeting, both stated that they had achieved progress on certain issues, without providing further details or answering questions from the press.
