All categories of Argentine soccer matches will be rescheduled for tomorrow

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) decided to suspend all matches scheduled for this Monday due to the passing of Pope Francis at the age of 88 in the early hours of this Monday.

In the context of the official mourning, the Primera División matches between Tigre-Belgrano, Argentinos Juniors-Barracas Central, and Independiente Rivadavia-Aldosivi will be moved to Tuesday, mostly keeping the schedules they were going to be played today.

Two matches from the Primera Nacional (Defensores de Belgrano vs. Temperley and Ferro vs. Atlanta), one from the Primera B Metropolitana (Sacachispas vs. Acassuso), and three matches from the Primera C (Centro Español vs. Luján, Sportivo Barracas vs. Victoriano Arenas, and Central Ballester vs. Deportivo Paraguayo) were also postponed.

Another league that decided to suspend its matches is the Serie A of Italy and the Primavera (Reserve or Under 20). The affected Italian First Division matches are:

  • Torino vs. Udinese
  • Cagliari vs. Fiorentina
  • Genoa vs. Lazio
  • Parma vs. Juventus

AFA's message on social media after the death of Pope Francis

"The AFA, on behalf of President Claudio Tapia and the Executive Committee, expresses its deepest sorrow for the passing of Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who in 2013 became the first Argentine to lead the Catholic Church," wrote the governing body of Argentine football on its social media accounts.
