Luis Rolle supported the actions of the security forces during the eviction of the former Perón Institute building
General Commissioner Luis Alejandro Rolle, head of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), held a press conference on Saturday night in which he supported the actions of the security forces during the eviction of the former Juan Domingo Perón National Institute building.
This building had been illegally occupied hours earlier by left-wing extremist Juan Grabois and a group of violent activists from the Frente Patria Grande. The intervention ended with the arrest of Grabois and other demonstrators, and resulted in four injured officers.
“This afternoon, a group of picketers led by Juan Grabois violently took over a government building. There were approximately 50 people who entered and held four police officers who were guarding the building”, Rolle stated.
The head of the force also emphasized that “four Federal Police officers who were leading the operation sustained injuries” during the eviction procedure.
“In more than 40 years of service, this is the first time in a long time that the PFA has acted to recover a government asset. With Dr. Milei's administration, all authorities will act to recover the necessary resources”, Rolle declared, in clear alignment with the hardline stance promoted by the current national administration regarding public order.
The occupation of the Perón Institute began around 2:00 p.m., when activists and legislators from Frente Patria Grande—including Grabois, Itai Hagman, and Natalia Zaracho—illegally entered the building in protest of Javier Milei's government's announcement of its closure.
Hours later, agents from the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), together with officers from the City Police, moved in to clear the site, authorized by a court order to evict the building and arrest the occupiers.
From the Ministry of Human Capital, headed by Sandra Pettovello, a statement was issued detailing that the Institute had 20 employees and caused an annual expense exceeding 400 million pesos (881,849 dollars).
“The entirety of its budget was allocated to salaries and basic service maintenance, with its authorities having conducted no research to fulfill the institute's purpose”, they explained.
