Square Enix released a free demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series, marking the official arrival of this acclaimed remake on new platforms. The trial includes the first chapter of the game, set in the iconic city of Midgar, and offers a key feature that is highly valued by players: the ability to transfer saved progress to the full version.
The definitive release of the title is scheduled for January 22, 2026 on both consoles. The demo serves as an initial technical and narrative approach, in addition to being part of a broader multiplatform strategy by Square Enix.
What the free Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade demo includes
The demo allows players to play the remake's initial chapter, where users take control of Cloud Strife, a former member of SOLDIER, during Avalanche's mission to sabotage a mako reactor belonging to the Shinra corporation. This segment is considered one of the most representative of the entire saga and acts as an introduction to the reimagined universe of the 1997 classic.

When players complete the demo and load the save file in the full game, they will receive exclusive in-game rewards, including:
Revival Earrings
Survival Set
These items serve as an additional incentive for those who decide to try the demo before the official release.
Episode INTERmission and additional included content
The Intergrade edition also incorporates Episode INTERmission, an expansion starring Yuffie Kisaragi. This side story shows the infiltration of the ninja from Wutai into Midgar together with her partner Sonon, providing new mechanics, environments, and narrative perspectives.
This additional content, which was already available on PlayStation 5 and PC, will now be included for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series users, offering the complete remake experience from day one.
Pre-order bonuses and commercial strategy
Square Enix is accompanying the release with various pre-order bonuses. Those who pre-order the digital edition of the game will receive at no additional cost a copy of Final Fantasy VII (1997). On Xbox Series, the original title will be available immediately, while on Nintendo Switch 2 it will be enabled after the remake's release.

This promotion will be valid until January 31, 2026, allowing players to relive the original work before immersing themselves in its modernized version.
In addition, pre-orders of the physical edition on Nintendo Switch 2 will include a Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy Play Booster pack, with 15 random cards inspired by the franchise, targeting both JRPG fans and collectors.
Multiplatform expansion and community expectations
The arrival of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2 represents the first official expansion of the trilogy beyond the PlayStation and PC ecosystem. This decision reinforces a growing trend in the Japanese industry: expanding the reach of its most important franchises to new audiences.
Naoki Hamaguchi, the project's director, assured that this strategy will not affect the development of the trilogy's third installment, although he avoided confirming whether its release will be simultaneous on all platforms or will maintain temporary exclusivity. Meanwhile, the demo allows players to evaluate the technical performance and visual experience on each console, a key factor for many followers of the saga.
