Due to sports betting, the contracts of two GyT de Salta players were terminated.
Amid claims of a debt, both players were immediately released as soon as the information became known
Gimnasia y Tiro de Salta is facing a new conflict that adds to its delicate institutional present: two of its players decided to terminate their contracts after being involved in an episode related to sports betting and threats.
The players in question are Luis Olivera and Marcelo Herrera, although in the latter's case, the departure hasn't been officially announced yet. Both had joined the club at the beginning of the season and the recent events hastened the termination of their contractual ties.
"The Club Gimnasia y Tiro informs that Luis Olivera is no longer part of the institution. The player terminated his contract for personal reasons and by mutual agreement between the parties. We wish him success in his career," states the statement issued by the Salta institution.

How did it all start?
The conflict began when two people approached the club's leaders demanding the payment of a debt attributed to one of the players, allegedly linked to sports betting.
From the management, after speaking with the player in question, they confirmed that he himself admitted to having gambling addiction problems. Consequently, Olivera asked to end his contract, as the situation was interfering with his professional performance. He is currently under professional treatment.

The individuals who confronted the leaders haven't returned to the club's facilities and claimed that they went to the place because the player in question hadn't settled a debt, which according to them, was related to alleged breaches by Gimnasia y Tiro.
A match under scrutiny
The newspaper El Tribuno highlighted that the suspicions around the bets intensified after the match against Deportivo Madryn, in which Olivera was booked twice under striking circumstances. He received the first yellow card at the 35th minute of the first half and, just as the second half began, he saw the second one.
