The renowned actor Gene Hackman, star of classics like The French Connection, Unforgiven, and Superman, was found dead alongside his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and his pet at their residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The shocking news shook Hollywood, while the circumstances of the event remain not fully clarified.
Hackman resided in that property since the late 80s, when he decided to settle in a more peaceful environment. The house, of rustic style, was surrounded by an arid landscape and located in a dry climate characteristic of the region. In the early years, the actor commissioned a complete renovation from Studio Arquitectura de Santa Fe, with the intention of completely transforming the property.

In an interview given to Architectural Digest in 1990, Hackman confessed that his choice of Santa Fe was influenced by his experience in several shoots in the area. "It has a kind of magic," he commented at that time.
