In the lead-up to the Hungarian Grand Prix, Franco Colapinto was asked about one of the topics that generates the most expectations for the 2027 season: his future at Alpine. Although his performance in the championship fueled rumors about a possible continuation, the Argentine assured that he has not yet received any confirmation.

"I have no idea. I’m just focused on driving and I’m happy this year. I feel like I’m doing a good job. I simply have no idea", responded the 23-year-old driver during the press conference. Far from speculating about the driver market, Colapinto emphasized what his priority is at this moment. "I’m solely focused on these upcoming races and giving my best with the team, trying to improve the car. That is our main objective".

When pressed about the rumors circulating regarding his future, the Argentine responded with irony: "I think you definitely know more than we do with all the rumors you publish online. I don’t even know a quarter of what you know".

In addition to referring to his contractual situation, the Buenos Aires native analyzed Alpine's current sports situation, which has lost ground to Racing Bulls and Audi in the battle for the midfield in the constructors' championship. As he explained, the development of the car has not yielded the expected results. "I think Racing Bulls brought more improvements than we did and has been developing in a better way. We also brought things that we thought would represent a big step and, unfortunately, it wasn’t as significant as we expected", he noted.

In that sense, he revealed that the French team is working on a new package of updates that will arrive after the summer break. "Teams like Racing Bulls and Audi brought many things throughout the year and improved the car a lot. We have some new things coming, but unfortunately, it won’t be this weekend".

Finally, he acknowledged that Alpine no longer has the advantage it showed at the beginning of the season. "Yes we slightly improved the car, but I think we were somewhat surpassed in development and we are no longer in the same position we were in Miami, Canada, and Monaco compared to them. So we are working to do better".

When Colapinto Returns to Race

After entering the points zone for the second consecutive time, the Argentine driver will seek to close the first part of the season by adding points in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Action at the Hungaroring will begin this Friday, July 24 with the first free practices and will culminate on Sunday, July 26 with the main race.

In his only appearance in Formula 1 at this circuit during the previous season, the native of Pilar finished in 18th place, largely affected by the poor performance of the A525.
