'Ghost of Yotei': Sony presented 20 minutes of gameplay and two collector's edition PS5 consoles

Sony showcased in detail the highly anticipated Ghost of Yotei, exclusive to PlayStation 5. The title arrives on October 2 with an open-world concept, visceral combat, and a narrative steeped in Japanese mythology.

In addition to the gameplay, the presentation included two limited edition PS5 consoles decorated with motifs from the game. Ghost of Yotei promises to be one of the year's major releases for fans of action and exploration.

A story of revenge in feudal Japan

Ghost of Yotei follows Atsu, a mercenary who returns to her homeland after 16 years. Her goal is to take revenge on the Six of Yotei, those responsible for the massacre of her family.

The plot is inspired by Japanese folklore and the onryō, vengeful spirits. Throughout the journey, many will see Atsu as one of these supernatural entities.

Interactive flashbacks and ally system

The game features a system of activatable memories that allows the player to relive key moments with a single button. This enhances the connection to Atsu's past and enriches the narrative development.

Players will also be able to form a "pack" of allies. These characters will join the protagonist at different times and offer missions, upgrades, or relevant information from the portable camp.

Open world with total freedom

The free exploration concept invites players to roam the map without pressure. The development team emphasized that "Yotei won't rush you," prioritizing the personal experience over traditional objectives.

Among the new features are hidden shrines, grappling hooks and slides for movement, maps for sale, and a clue system that unlocks by interrogating enemies.

Versatile and brutal combat

Atsu isn't a samurai or a ninja: she's a mercenary. That's why she can use multiple weapons and unorthodox tactics, including "dirty" moves.

The arsenal includes katanas, spears, kusarigamas, dual swords, blunderbusses, and kunai. The confrontations are inspired by classic samurai cinema, with measured duels where every strike matters.

PS5 limited edition: two exclusive models

To celebrate the launch, Sony introduced two versions of the PlayStation 5 Ghost of Yotei edition. Both include DualSense controllers and custom covers with designs from the game.

They'll be available starting October 2, and in addition to the consoles, the controller and covers with the same design can also be purchased separately. The price for Latin America hasn't been revealed yet.

With immersive storytelling, demanding combat, free exploration, and impeccable artistic direction, Ghost of Yotei is shaping up to be one of PlayStation's most important releases this year.
