Hours before the rematch between Real Madrid and Benfica for the Champions League play-offs, the buildup was overshadowed by the disciplinary case involving Argentine player Gianluca Prestianni. UEFA imposed a provisional one-match suspension on him while it investigates an alleged case of racist language against Vinícius Júnior for, according to the Brazilian, having called him a "monkey".
In that context, a new development in the case emerged from England. According to The Times, the former Vélez player is considering filing a complaint against Vinícius Júnior for having called him "dwarf" during the first leg. Prestianni, who is 1.65 meters (5 feet 5 inches) tall and is one of the shortest footballers in the Portuguese squad, intends to incorporate that episode into his defense strategy before the European body.
In any case, the same British outlet warns that this line of argument would not be considered a mitigating factor if UEFA confirms conduct subject to sanction by the Benfica player. The final decision is expected in the coming hours.
