Gonzalo Valenzuela defended Javier Milei and disparaged Maradona: 'He's a cancer.'
The Chilean actor was blunt in his criticism of the Argentine football idol and supported the current president's administration
In a recent interview on the streaming show Quizá no sea nada, broadcast by the channel Porcel TV, Chilean actor Gonzalo Valenzuela sparked a strong controversy by harshly criticizing Diego Maradona while simultaneously expressing his support for Argentine President Javier Milei. During the conversation, the artist described the football idol as a "social cancer" and questioned the symbolic legacy of the famous "Hand of God."
"Everything was allowed in Argentina. And that comes from Maradona. For me, he's the great example: Maradona jumped, scored a goal with his hand against the English, which in football you can't touch the ball with your hand, and they called it 'The Hand of God.' In other words, they placed cheating in a divine place. And that thing is a social cancer," Valenzuela expressed on the show, visibly indignant about what he considers a glorification of deceit.
The actor also shared his concern about the cultural impact of this type of example on Argentine society, especially on younger generations. "How do I explain to my Argentine son? How do I explain that the rules of the game must be respected if the greatest idol scores a goal with his hand and they call it 'The Hand of God'?" he asked, referring to the difficulty of conveying ethical values in a context where, according to him, cheating is rewarded.
Gonzalo Valenzuela aseguró que Maradona es un cáncer social
In another part of the interview, Valenzuela recalled the presidential transition between Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in 2007, which he also pointed to as an example of the supposed political permissiveness in the country. "For the President of the Republic to hand over power to his wife, and that thing everyone applauds and no one says anything. From there, a social thing starts that I believe people couldn't take anymore," he stated.
In that context, the actor supported current President Javier Milei and stated that his promise of order was a key factor in gaining popular support. "Milei has the idea, or he presented this policy that he was going to establish certain rules and order. I believe that's why he was more voted for, although no one ever imagined that Argentina would emerge from that level of inflation and that hole it has always been in," he concluded.
