Ignacio Fernández was officially presented this Monday as Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata's new signing, in what marks his return to the club after a long and successful career, with his last spell at River. The ceremony took place at Lobo's Social Headquarters and represented the first confirmed signing for the 2026 season.
Nacho's return was one of the most anticipated by the "tripero" fans and the midfielder did not hide his excitement when he spoke. "I already got emotional. The truth is that I waited a long time for this moment. I'm very happy to be back here, we hope it will be a beautiful year and to enjoy it with my family, who always supports me," he said.
Fernández signed a one-year contract, with the possibility of extending it for one more season, and he made it clear that the sporting project was decisive in making his decision. "I had a conversation with the coach. Since he took over the team, he lifted it and ended up fighting in a semifinal. The idea is to continue along that path," he stated.
