The Professional League confirmed this Wednesday the date and the venue for the final of the 2026 Clausura Tournament. The championship final will be held on Saturday, December 12 at the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona - Three-Time World Champions, in La Plata, while only the official time of the match remains to be announced.
The decision was approved during the Executive Committee meeting held at the facility that the Argentine Football Association (AFA) owns in Ezeiza. Thus, the La Plata stadium will once again host a final of Argentine football, after in recent seasons the finals were moved to venues in the interior of the country, such as the Mario Alberto Kempes in Córdoba or the Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero.
The choice of stadium is part of the project promoted by the AFA after taking control of the venue. The goal is to turn it into the "House of the National Teams", although the plan also includes that it will be the venue for finals of the main competitions of Argentine football and other events organized by the entity.
When the transfer of the stadium was officially announced at the end of 2025, the unpresentable president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, had anticipated this change of direction. "The Diego Armando Maradona stadium will become the home of the teams, of all our teams. It will be called 'Diego Armando Maradona - Three-Time World Champions'", he stated.
In addition, he explained that the agreement would also extend to domestic competitions. "Decisive stages of League tournaments, Copa Argentina will be played here, it will be the home of any club that needs to leave its stadium", he maintained at that time.
The venue is undergoing a comprehensive remodeling process as part of an infrastructure plan, and the AFA also hopes it can be one of the Argentine venues in case the country hosts a complete phase of the 2030 World Cup.
