The governor Raúl Jalil presented the mining development model of Catamarca during his presentation at the Forbes Mining Summit, where he highlighted the growth that the activity has experienced in recent years and the impact it generates on the provincial economy.

One of the main data points mentioned by the governor was the 32% increase in job creation within the mining sector since 2023, an evolution that, as he explained, reflects the progress of the projects and the consolidation of mining as one of the productive engines of the province.

Jalil stated that Catamarca's strategy aims for the natural resources located underground to translate into jobs, investments, and concrete opportunities for the communities located in the areas of influence of the projects.

Mining royalties for local works and development

During his presentation, the governor emphasized that one of the axes of provincial policy consists of using royalties and funds from mining activity to finance public works and generate an impact that directly transcends the companies participating in the projects.

In this regard, he noted that the resources are also allocated to the strengthening of local suppliers and the ongoing training of workers from Catamarca.

The goal is for the growth of mining not to be limited to the extraction of minerals but to allow for the development of a value chain linked to the activity, generating new opportunities for companies and workers in the province.

The strategy seeks, in this way, to increase the economic spillover of investments and strengthen the participation of local actors in the various services and activities associated with mining ventures.

Legal security and clear rules to attract investments

Jalil also highlighted during the Forbes Mining Summit the importance of ensuring legal security, institutional transparency, and clear rules to sustain the growth of the activity.

According to him, these factors are essential to build trust among investors and allow new projects to be developed in Catamarca.

The governor also emphasized the permanent dialogue with local communities, considering that the relationship between companies, the State, and the populations near the ventures constitutes another of the necessary pillars to consolidate mining development.

From the perspective of the provincial government, the combination of predictability, investment, and dialogue allows for progress in new projects while generating conditions for the economic benefits of the activity to have a broader impact.

Mining as a driver to diversify the economy

Jalil also suggested that mining development could become a platform to diversify the economy of Catamarca.

Instead of concentrating growth exclusively on resource extraction, the provincial strategy aims to use the movement generated by investments to boost other productive sectors, including industry, tourism, and services.

The governor thus highlighted a vision of mining as an activity capable of generating effects on different sectors of the provincial economy through the demand for suppliers, infrastructure, training, and new jobs.

Jalil's presentation at the Forbes Mining Summit took place in a context of growing interest in Argentina's mining potential, particularly for resources linked to lithium and other minerals considered strategic for the global economy.

For Catamarca, the challenge now is to deepen investments and transform that potential into more jobs, infrastructure, and economic development, maintaining the framework of clear rules and community participation that the provincial government presented as pillars of its model.
