President Javier Milei reaffirmed Argentina's historic claim over the Malvinas Islands, stating that national sovereignty over the archipelago "is not negotiable." The statements were made in a lengthy interview with the British outlet The Telegraph, where he addressed issues of foreign policy, defense, economy, and political leadership.
The president's positions became known after the approval of the 2026 Budget in the Senate, an event that Milei described as "a historic milestone" for his administration.

Malvinas as a non-renounceable cause
During the interview, Milei was emphatic when referring to the Malvinas issue:"We are never going to renounce our claim of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands." He added: "Sovereignty is not negotiable. It is a permanent cause of the Argentine State."
The President stressed that his strategy excludes any path of military confrontation and relies exclusively on diplomatic dialogue. "The only way to recover the Malvinas is through diplomatic means and when the islanders so wish", he stated.
In that context, Milei confirmed that there are talks with the United Kingdom to lift the ban on the sale of weapons to Argentina. This regulation has been in force since 1982, after the start of the armed conflict. "I am going to do everything that allows for improving trade and bilateral relations, always considering geopolitical risks," he explained.

Nevertheless, he again drew a clear line: "One thing is to normalize relations and a very different one is to renounce sovereignty. That is not up for discussion".
The Government emphasizes that dialogue on defense matters is part of a strategy of military modernization and recovery of capabilities. However, the historic principles of Argentine foreign policy will not be abandoned.
Balance and governing style
In another part of the interview, Milei reviewed the economic results of his administration. "We ended 123 years of fiscal deficit", he stated. He then listed: "We reduced public spending by 30%, we cut in half the number of ministries, and we managed to stabilize inflation."
Regarding his leadership style, he explained that his administration operates under a horizontal scheme."I set the objectives and the ministers implement the policies needed to achieve them", he explained.
Finally, the President concluded: "I am increasingly convinced that we are the best government in history."
Alignment with the West and trip to London

In international politics, Milei defended Argentina's realignment with the United States and the West. Regarding his relationship with Donald Trump, he stated: "I admire him deeply. He is someone who is very clear that the enemy is socialism."
In relation to Venezuela, he was even harsher. "The world would be a better place without Venezuelan communism", he stated. He added: "If the Cuban version also came to an end, the world would be a better place."
Milei confirmed that he plans to visit London in 2026, which would mark a milestone, since it would be the first visit by an Argentine president after the one made by Menem in 1998. "We want to move toward a mature relationship with the United Kingdom," he maintained, and he highlighted the importance of strengthening trade and cultural ties.

With regard to Europe, he praised Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. "She confronts wokism and has a very clear stance on immigration", he pointed out. He added: "When there is no cultural integration, that ceases to be immigration and becomes an invasion."
Liberalism, State, and freedom
At the end of the interview, the President again defended his liberal vision. "If I want to be freer, the State represents a loss of freedom, which is why I have to try to remove it from the way," he stated. In the same vein, he maintained: "Taxes are an attack on private property and regulations are an attack on freedom".
Throughout the interview, Milei sought to consolidate a message of firm leadership on sovereignty, combined with a pragmatic foreign policy. He made clear his alignment with the West and his intention to reposition Argentina on the international stage without abandoning its historic claims.
