The jihadist communist Zohran Mamdani took office as mayor of New York and, within hours, made it clear what the profile of his administration will be. One of his first measures was to eliminate the official recognition of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, a tool adopted by dozens of countries and cities to identify and combat contemporary antisemitism.
The decision was neither minor nor technical:it was the revocation of an executive order signed in June 2025 by his predecessor, Eric Adams, which sought to strengthen the institutional fight against antisemitism in a city with one of the largest Jewish communities in the world.
Immediate condemnation from the Government of Israel
Israel's Foreign Ministry reacted harshly and accused the new mayor of acting with ideological irresponsibility. “Mamdani shows his true face:he eliminates the IHRA definition and lifts the restrictions on the boycott of Israel. This isn't leadership, it's antisemitic gasoline on an open fire,” the Israeli government stated in an official message.

The criticism from Jerusalem isn't new. During the election campaign, Mamdani had already been singled out by Israeli officials as a leader hostile to the Jewish state, with positions that downplay antisemitism under the umbrella of pro-Palestinian activism.
Total revocation of Eric Adams's orders
The elimination of the definition of antisemitism wasn't an isolated measure. Mamdani annulled all executive orders signed by Eric Adams after September 26, 2024, including one that prohibited municipal officials from participating in boycotts and divestments against Israel.
