The Brazilian Justice system upheld the sentence of six years in prison for Juan Darthés, who will serve his sentence in a semi-open regime for the sexual abuse case against actress Thelma Fardin. This decision was made after the actor's guilt was confirmed, as he was accused of rape in 2018 by the actress, who in her complaint alleged that the abuse occurred during a tour of the youth series Patito Feo in Nicaragua in 2009, when Fardin was 16 years old and Darthés, 45.
The semi-open regime, to which Darthés was sentenced, is a penitentiary system that seeks to facilitate the social reintegration of convicts. It allows inmates to leave during the day to work, study, or attend educational activities, but they must return to prison at night. To monitor their departure, convicts must use electronic devices, such as an ankle bracelet, which track their presence outside prison. Additionally, those who demonstrate good behavior can access temporary leaves.
The judicial ruling comes after years of legal proceedings in which Darthés always vehemently denied Fardin's accusations. After the complaint, the actor moved to Brazil, where he continued facing the trial. The sentence is an important step in the judicial process that has also had a significant impact on the actress's life.
