Maradona Case: Julio Coria refused to testify and will remain in custody
Diego Maradona's custodian appeared before Prosecutor Carolina Asprella in San Isidro, after being arrested on Tuesday while testifying before the Oral Criminal Court No. 3
Julio César Coria, who worked as Diego Maradona's bodyguard, refused to testify this Thursday before the San Isidro prosecutor, Carolina Asprella, and will remain detained on charges of perjury in the trial over the death of the soccer star.

Coria's arrest occurred last Tuesday while he was giving his testimony before the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) No. 3. According to judicial sources, his statement presented blatant contradictions compared to what he had stated during the case's investigation phase. In light of this situation, and at the request of prosecutor Patricio Ferrari and plaintiff lawyer Fernando Burlando, the judges ordered his immediate detention.
Contradictions in his testimony
One of the most relevant points that led to his arrest was his version regarding psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov. Initially, Coria had denied that the professional performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on Maradona. However, during his recent statement, he claimed the opposite, contradicting his previous testimony.
Another aspect that raised doubts was his relationship with Maradona's personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque. Coria claimed not to know him, but the prosecutor presented a series of chats that demonstrated a close relationship between the two, revealing an inconsistency in his statements.

After a brief recess, the judges decided on his detention, and the police proceeded to remove him from the courtroom in handcuffs.
His role in Maradona's security
Julio César Coria took on the task of permanently guarding Maradona from his arrival at the San Andrés country club, in mid-November 2020, just days before his death. Previously, he had worked providing security on specific occasions, responding to the needs of the former player's entourage.
Defense strategy
Meanwhile, Coria's defense lawyer, Gastón Marano, is preparing a document to present to the Prosecutor's Office in order to request his release. It has been reported that in the coming hours he will formalize the request for his client to regain his freedom.

Meanwhile, the trial over Maradona's death continues to progress with the collection of testimonies and evidence to determine the responsibilities in the Argentine idol's passing.
