Before Inter embarks on its journey in the Champions League 2026/27, Lautaro Martínez had time to address one of the topics that generated the most noise during the last transfer market in Spain. Ahead of the clash against Real Madrid, the Argentine forward publicly backed Julián Álvarez, his teammate in the Argentine National Team.

The situation of the Atlético de Madrid attacker did not go unnoticed by the captain of the Italian team. When asked about what happened in recent weeks, Lautaro shared that he kept in contact with his teammate and sought to support him during a complex time. "I talked to him, I sent him a message. I showed him all my support because, beyond the fact that we share a squad, we share a position and fight for a place in the National Team, he is a friend," explained the Toro.

The Bahian also acknowledged that he understands the difficulties that Araña has gone through and avoided questioning the decisions made by the parties during the conflict. "Surely the moment he went through and is going through is not easy, but well, the decision is up to his club, the president," he noted.

Far from just focusing on the episode, Lautaro took the opportunity to highlight Julián's qualities and express his wish that he can quickly regain his best form. "I wish him the best, I hope he gets better soon and continues to show what he has shown so far, because he is a great player, one of the best in the world," he concluded.

The ordeal of Julián at Atlético Madrid

The Toro's support comes after a transfer market in which Álvarez's future was at the center of attention. The forward expressed his intention to leave Atlético Madrid to join Barcelona, but the rojiblanco management refused to part with one of its main figures and remained firm in its stance.

The conflict even escalated to the institutional level, as the Colchonero filed a complaint with FIFA against the Catalan club for alleged illegal contacts with the player. At the same time, Álvarez turned down other options that came from the Premier League, including a formal proposal from Arsenal.

With the transfer window now closed, the Argentine forward remained in Madrid and is once again under the orders of Diego Simeone. His return to the pitch was not easy: he came on in the second half of the 3-0 defeat against Athletic Bilbao and received further signs of discontent from the fans.

Now, with the market closed and a valid contract with Atlético, Álvarez will face the challenge of rebuilding his relationship with the public through performances on the field. In this context, the debut in the Champions League appears as a new opportunity to put behind the tension of the last few weeks and regain prominence.
