In recent days, public debate has been reactivated as a result of questions regarding the funds provided by the Asian country, which has reopened the discussion about the scope, benefits, and risks of the bilateral relationship.
In that context, the name of attorney Cristhian Laniado Vijil emerged, whose closeness to the defense of relations with Beijing has been noted in different spaces. According to what has been suggested, his stance is not limited to the strictly professional sphere, but is also reflected in his activity on social media, where he has firmly supported the diplomatic relationship with China.

The controversy deepened after it emerged that attorneys considered to have a long track record had allegedly rejected offers linked to the Chinese Communist Party, which allegedly led to turning to other contacts to carry out certain arrangements. In Laniado's case, it is maintained that his professional decision would have distanced him from other clients and would have led him to work mainly with companies that have the support of sectors linked to the Chinese government. Although these accounts are circulating widely in political and legal circles, there is no public statement from the attorney so far: Laniado doesn't grant interviews to media outlets and doesn't wish to make statements on any particular issue.
