The wave of insecurity hitting the province of Buenos Aires added another violent episode in La Plata, where a federal police officer was attacked by two motorcycle thieves who tried to rob him while he was riding his motorcycle. The officer defended himself by shooting, killing one of the criminals and injuring the accomplice, who remains hospitalized under police custody.
The incident occurred on Wednesday on Camino Centenario, between streets 476 and 477, in City Bell, and was recorded by the cameras of the city's Operations and Monitoring Center. The victim, a 53-year-old sergeant of the Argentine Federal Police, was riding in civilian clothes on a Honda Wave when he was intercepted by two criminals riding a Honda GLH.
According to the agent's statement, the motorcycle thieves threatened him to rob him and took the key to his motorcycle in an attempt to force him to stop. During the attack, a struggle ensued and the police officer lost control of the vehicle, causing him to fall to the ground.
The officer identified himself as a member of a security force and used his 9mm Glock pistol to defend himself against the criminals. One of the attackers, identified as Axel Maximiliano Mancilla Obando, 18 years old, was shot in the chest and died at the scene.
His accomplice, Luciano Pereira, 26 years old, was also injured and was taken to San Roque Hospital in Gonnet, where he remains hospitalized under police custody. At the scene, investigators seized the officer's service weapon and a replica of a 9mm pistol found with the suspects.
Pereira had several criminal records. According to judicial information, he had pending cases for disobedience and concealment, as well as a restraining order for minor injuries in effect since July 2025. The investigation is in the hands of the Functional Instruction Unit No. 17 of La Plata, with the intervention of prosecutor Di Lorenzo, who ordered the preservation of the scene and the advancement of the corresponding forensic examinations.
Some of the criminals who attended the funeral
After the failed robbery attempt, family and friends of the deceased criminal held a massive motorcycle caravan to bid him farewell in a funeral with firearms and shots in the air. The procession departed from a funeral home located at the intersection of streets 44 and 187 heading to the La Plata Cemetery.
The images shared on social media show dozens of criminals honking horns and revving motorcycle engines during the procession, in a scene that is becoming increasingly common in the suburbs of Axel Kicillof.
