Monza once again dresses up to welcome the Formula 1, although this time speed will not be the only thing capturing attention. In the lead-up to the Italian Grand Prix, an unexpected visitor appeared who quickly became one of the main attractions of the circuit: Lightning McQueen.
The renowned character from Disney and Pixar, protagonist of the Cars movie saga, was introduced as a track vehicle and will have a special appearance during the weekend, as part of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the film's release. Among the planned activities, McQueen will take a victory lap around the historic Monza track.
The presence of the seven-time Piston Cup champion will also extend to the safety car. The Mercedes-AMG of Formula 1 will feature a special decoration inspired by Cars, with red as the main color, various elements referencing the movie, and the franchise logo. Additionally, the inscription "Ka-Ciao" will appear on the rear, one of the character's most recognized expressions.
The appearance in Italy is part of the expansion of the relationship between Formula 1 and Disney, which began in 2025 with actions featuring Mickey & Friends and will now extend until 2028, including a special presentation at the Bellagio fountains during the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Monza also marks the first participation of Cars within this collaboration, precisely in the context of the celebrations for the film's two decades. For spectators attending the Grand Prix, there will also be a special collection of F1 x Cars, which includes scale cars from Mattel, clothing, accessories, and various collectible items.
"The success of our partnership with Disney has demonstrated what is possible when two beloved global brands come together around a shared vision of creativity, storytelling, and commitment to fans", commented Emily Prazer, commercial director of the category.

"Extending our relationship reflects the strength of that collaboration and our ambition to continue creating new experiences for fans around the world. This merchandise collection is a natural next step and brings together the excitement of Formula 1 with Disney and Pixar's Cars in a way that feels both authentic and nostalgic", she added.
"For many fans, Cars was an early introduction to the thrill of racing, making this collaboration a fun way to celebrate the lasting appeal of the sport through characters that generations have come to know and love", she concluded.
Colapinto, face to face with Lightning
Franco Colapinto also had his particular encounter with the protagonist of Cars upon arriving at the Monza circuit. The Argentine approached to observe it closely and ended up starring in a curious scene when a jet of hot water shot out of his thermos and passed very close to the vehicle. In response to the situation, the driver decided to quickly move away from the spot as if nothing had happened.
When will Colapinto race again
After his complicated participation in Zandvoort, the Argentine, who will now have the upgrades in his A526 that Alpine developed during the summer break, will seek to recover at the Italian Grand Prix. Activities at the iconic Italian circuit will begin on Friday, September 4 with the first free practices and conclude on Sunday, the 6th with the main race.
