Lospennato wants to create the 'Digital Violence Law' to pursue opponents.

This initiative reveals an intention to control digital discourse and undermine freedom of expression

In a context of increasing polarization on social media, Silvia Lospennato, the main candidate of PRO in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, is promoting a controversial initiative known as the "Law Against Digital Violence".

This authoritarian project would seek to establish strict regulations on people's behavior on digital platforms, including fines for "fighting" on social media, the prohibition of insults or words considered "violent" and the elimination of anonymity on the internet.

The proposal, similar to the regulatory initiatives of Kirchnerist authoritarianism, caused an intense debate about freedom of expression and the limits of state control in the digital space.

It is important to remember that Lospennato was, and probably still is, very close friends with Malena Galmarini, wife of Sergio Massa, who made multiple complaints to try to imprison Twitter users on social media for criticizing her husband during the last presidential elections.

During a press conference held a few weeks ago, Lospennato was accompanied by María Eugenia Vidal, head of the PRO campaign, and the first seven candidates on the list.

In that context, Vidal highlighted the campaign's objectives, emphasizing a "clean competition, without false accusations, without personal attacks, without encouraging defamation". Additionally, she stressed the need to "not make, encourage, or allow personal attacks or fake news", suggesting that the "Law Against Digital Violence" could be an extension of this stance, bringing the regulation of online interactions into the legislative realm.

However, these statements reveal an intention to control digital discourse and threaten freedom of expression, especially in an electoral context where social media is a key battleground.

Terms like "digital violence" or "violent words" could open the door to subjective interpretations and abuses of power. The elimination of anonymity, in particular, caused concern, as many users use pseudonyms to protect their privacy or express dissenting opinions without fear of reprisals. This law would seem to be designed to silence those who do not align with the official narrative of PRO.

As the elections approach, many people see the PRO's project as a direct threat to essential freedoms.
