The Israeli Navy has intercepted in recent hours several vessels of the so-called "Global Sumud Flotilla," a mission that claims its objective is to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and break the naval blockade imposed by Israel.
Among those detained is Swedish climate and communist activist Greta Thunberg, whose presence has been interpreted by Israeli authorities as part of a propaganda operation with political aims.
According to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the boats were "stopped without issue" and the passengers are being transferred to an Israeli port for identification.
"Greta and her friends are safe and sound," the institution posted on its official X account, along with a video showing Thunberg on the deck of one of the vessels, wearing a keffiyeh, the traditional Palestinian scarf, and escorted by Israeli soldiers with their faces covered.
Israel has labeled the flotilla as a "Hamas-Flotilla," in direct reference to the Palestinian Islamist group that governs Gaza and that is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, and other countries. Israeli authorities maintain that these initiatives are not humanitarian missions, but rather acts of political provocation that seek to undermine the blockade legitimately established as a security measure.
The flotilla's organization reported that at least three of its vessels, the Alma, the Sirius, and the Adara, were boarded in international waters by "Israeli occupation forces," while they were about 80 nautical miles from Gaza. However, Israel keeps that the maritime blockade has international legal backing and is intended to prevent arms trafficking to Hamas.
More than 40 boats and around 500 activists from various European and Arab countries make up this dangerous flotilla, which departed from ports in Spain, Italy, and Tunisia. On board are various public figures, including South African Mandla Mandela, grandson of the communist leader of South Africa, European legislators, and several Latin American activists.

Among the Argentinians, the presence of communist legislator Celeste Fierro and Carlos "Cascote" Bértola stands out. Bértola is the captain of the "Estrella y Manuel" boat and, according to those close to him, is still heading toward Gaza despite the Israeli intervention.
The Israeli government emphasizes that any attempt to break the blockade, even under humanitarian pretext, represents a violation of its sovereignty and a threat to regional security.
Under Israeli law, the detained activists may be deported within 72 hours, unless they accept voluntary expulsion. Last June, several activists from the Madleen boat were deported under this procedure.

Greta Thunberg's participation in this mission has caused strong criticism. For analysts and Israeli officials, her presence doesn't respond to a genuine interest in the "Palestinian people," but rather fits into an ideologized political agenda.
The young activist, known for her prominent activism against climate change, has been accused of trivializing complex conflicts such as Gaza by joining media campaigns that ignore the real threat posed by Hamas to Israel and regional stability.
While some vessels continue sailing toward Gaza, the Israeli government warned that it will continue to enforce the maritime blockade and will take the necessary measures to protect its territory. The situation could escalate if the remaining boats insist on violating the restrictions imposed by the Hebrew State.
